Craft Product Photography & Video for a Creative Co-Op
Breathing New Life Into a Denver Craft Icon
For years, Fancy Tiger Crafts was a cornerstone of Denver’s crafting community—a place where curiosity was encouraged, skills were shared, and creativity felt accessible to everyone. Though the shop ultimately closed due to rising rental costs, its impact on the local maker community is lasting and deeply felt.
Craft Product Photography That Tells the Story Behind the Handmade
Our collaboration with Fancy Tiger took place during a period of growth and creative momentum, when the shop was actively investing in its educational programs, visual identity, and community presence as a member-owned co-op. The goal wasn’t to change what made Fancy Tiger special, but to help reflect it more clearly through thoughtful photography and video—capturing the warmth, inclusivity, and joy that defined the space at its best.
Crafting Visuals That Honor the Making Process
Craft supplies are inherently tactile. Texture, color, and movement are part of the experience long before a project is finished. Fancy Tiger’s visuals needed to reflect that—imagery that felt lived-in and welcoming, not overly polished or detached from the act of making itself.
We focused on craft product photography that showed materials in use: fabric mid-cut, yarn pulled through fingers, tools resting between steps. Rather than isolating products on stark backgrounds, we photographed them as part of an active creative process. The goal was to mirror how customers actually interact with these supplies—curious, hands-on, and imperfect in the best way.
These images helped communicate that crafting doesn’t require expertise to begin—just the willingness to start.
Centering the People Behind the Craft
As a co-op, Fancy Tiger was always about more than products. Its strength came from the people who taught classes, helped customers, and shared their knowledge freely. A core part of this project was ensuring those individuals were visible within the brand’s visual language.
Through lifestyle and brand photography, we documented instructors and team members doing what they did best—teaching, guiding, and creating. These weren’t posed portraits or overly styled moments. They were quiet, intentional images that reflected care, skill, and genuine connection.
By placing people at the center of the visuals, the brand communicated something essential: this was a space built by makers, for makers.
Building a Sustainable Photography System
In addition to capturing new imagery, we worked closely with the team to create a repeatable, efficient photography approach that could support Fancy Tiger’s day-to-day needs.
Together, we:
Refined photo capture workflows for consistency
Improved color accuracy so materials photographed true-to-life
Established a cohesive visual style that balanced playfulness with clarity
Regular creative reviews allowed us to align on what felt most authentic to the brand and adjust as needed. The result was a system that supported both creativity and practicality—making it easier to maintain visual consistency across marketing, education, and digital platforms.
Expanding Learning Through Video
Education was a central part of Fancy Tiger’s mission, so photography alone wasn’t enough. To support their foundational classes, we also produced an educational video series designed to extend learning beyond the classroom.
These videos focused on clarity and accessibility, allowing students to revisit techniques at their own pace and build confidence over time. The tone matched Fancy Tiger’s teaching style: calm, encouraging, and grounded in the belief that everyone is capable of learning new skills.
Adding video created a flexible resource that supported instructors, students, and the broader community alike.
Bringing Craft to Life Through Stop Motion
As social platforms evolved, short-form video—especially Reels—was consistently outperforming static content. To help Fancy Tiger capture attention in a crowded feed, we incorporated stop motion into their product videos as a playful, eye-catching extension of the brand’s visual language.
Stop motion gave us a way to highlight the fun of crafting without overexplaining it. Felt pieces slid into place, tools appeared and disappeared, and materials seemed to come alive on their own. These videos mirrored the feeling of sitting down to make something—curious, a little magical, and deeply satisfying.
Because stop motion is built frame by frame, it allowed us to showcase products clearly while still feeling handmade and approachable. The resulting videos stood out in social feeds, aligned naturally with Fancy Tiger’s creative spirit, and gave the team flexible content that worked especially well for social media engagement.
More than anything, these pieces reminded viewers that crafting is meant to be enjoyable. Not perfect. Just fun.
Why This Work Still Matters
Fancy Tiger’s physical space may be gone, but the values it stood for—accessibility, shared knowledge, and creative confidence—continue to resonate. This project was about supporting those values visually and structurally during an important chapter of the brand’s evolution.
Our role wasn’t to define Fancy Tiger, but to help reflect what was already there with clarity and care. The photography and video created during this collaboration continue to stand as documentation of a creative community that valued process over perfection and people over products.
Projects like this remind us why we do this work: to support creative spaces while they exist, to honor the people who build them, and to create tools that help their impact reach further.
Working with Alex was an absolute joy. We first connected back in the Craftsy days, so this project felt like reuniting with an old creative friend. And honestly? Watching Robert the Raccoon (and the rest of the crew) go from sketch to real-life felt creature made our inner kids so, so happy.
At the end of the day, this wasn’t just about design or photography. It was about helping a small business grow while staying true to its values. And that’s the kind of project that keeps us inspired.
